Ex- Kano Perm Sec Hafsat Ilyas emphasizes mentorship’s role in shaping future leaders
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Kano State Chapter, in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Information Chapel, hosted a heartfelt send-off party to honour former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Hajiya Hafsat Ilyas Aliyu,
The event, focused on mentorship as a vital tool for professional development, underscored the importance of nurturing future leaders in society.
This is contained in a statement jointly signed by Sayyida Bahijja Kabara, and Comrade Maryam Muhammad Yakasai, Chairperson and Secretary of NAWOJ Kano State Chapter, respectively.
In her opening remarks, Sayyida Bahijja Kabara expressed appreciation for the attendees’ presence, highlighting the power of mentorship in fostering professional growth.

“Mentorship plays a crucial role in guiding the next generation of leaders, and Hajiya Hafsat has been an incredible mentor to many,” Kabara said.

She also acknowledged the celebrant’s immense contributions to the journalism profession. She then wished Hajiya Hafsat a smooth transition as she embarks on a new phase of her life.
The immediate past Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye took the stage to emphasize the lasting impact of mentorship on shaping the next generation of professionals.

“We must look up to the example set by Hajiya Hafsat,” he said, adding that, “Her leadership and dedication are a beacon of hope for the future of journalism.”
On behalf of Hajiya Hafsat’s friends, Hajiya Maryam Yarima described her as a hardworking and inspiring woman.

“Hajiya Hafsat has touched many lives with her dedication and work ethic,” Yarima said, praising her friend’s contribution to the profession.
NUJ Chairman, Kano Council, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi also lauded Hajiya Hafsat as a role model whose impact would continue to shape journalism in the years to come.
Also, National Secretary of NAWOJ, Comrade Wasila Ladan and Hajiya Halima Musa, Zonal National Trustee, sent their best wishes to Hajiya Hafsat, wishing her a fulfilling and colorful life ahead.
In an emotional moment, AbdulRahman Isah, Hajiya Hafsat’s firstborn, and a practicing journalist expressed gratitude to NAWOJ and NUJ for organizing the event.
“I am deeply thankful for this celebration,” Isa said. “My mother’s legacy in journalism is one I will carry forward with pride and commitment.”
Responding to the accolades, Hajiya Hafsat Ilyas Aliyu thanked her family, friends, and colleagues for their unwavering support.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities and the people who have been part of my journey,” she said. “May we all continue to thrive and support one another in our endeavors.”
The event served as a poignant reminder of the profound influence of mentorship and the lasting impact of dedicated professionals like Hajiya Hafsat in shaping a prosperous society.
