Family of slain anti-phone snatching commander narrates how incident happened as Gov. Yusuf promises justice

The family of the late Commander of the Kano State Anti-Phone Snatching Committee, Inuwa Salisu Sharada, has narrated how the tragic incident that led to his death occurred, calling for justice over what they described as a targeted attack.

Speaking to SolaceBase at their Sharada residence, the deceased’s mother, Malama Tine, said the incident happened when four policemen arrived at her son’s house on Wednesday night.

“I even welcomed them because I thought they were there for a special assignment, but when I entered my son’s house, I saw many of them trying to jump into the house through the fence. My son tried to run away from them. He escaped through the neighbour’s house.”

His brother, Nura Salisu Sharada, confirmed the account, saying:

“The incident happened at night. Some suspected armed men entered the house, and when my brother ran away, he suffered a heart attack. They even arrested one of our brothers and took him first to Sharada Police Station, then to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), but later released him.”

He further alleged that the attack was not random, insisting that certain individuals had been after the deceased due to his activities against phone snatching and criminal gangs in Kano.

“I can clearly say he was killed because we know there are people who were after him,” Nura said.

Reacting to the incident, Idris Jibrin Idris, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Anti-Phone Snatching Committee, expressed the group’s readiness to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.

“We are ready to give total support to ensure justice is done. We can confirm that the people involved were not thugs or gunmen; they were security operatives.”

Meanwhile, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who attended the funeral prayer of the late commander, described the deceased as a dedicated youth leader who contributed immensely to the state’s efforts in curbing phone snatching and other criminal activities.

“Inuwa was a gentleman who devoted his life to the betterment of our youths and the development of our dear state. We will ensure that justice is served.”

As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
