Fari emerges new Kano NBA Chairman

The Kano branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Thursday elected Usman Umar Fari as its new chairman in a keenly contested election.

SolaceBase reports that Fari defeated Huwaila Muhammad Ibrahim, the other contestant for the chairmanship seat.

The newly elected chairman secured 188 votes, as against his opposition who got 162 votes.

Speaking shortly after he was declared winner of the election, Fari appreciated the branch’s executive council for putting in place an effective and hardworking electoral committee under the chairmanship of Ismail Abdulaziz.

“I must say that the S.S. Gezawa-led exco deserves to be commended for remaining steadfast and ensuring that the will of members was not subverted.

“The electoral committee may go down in history as perhaps the most well-organized in terms of election planning in the branch.

“And of course, all the contestants did well. I commend them and urge them to bring their knowledge and experience to the table so that the branch can move forward with everyone’s contribution.

Meanwhile, Abdulhameed Abdurrazaq Ahmed, Salihu Umar Kududdufawa, Isiakpobegie Edafe Jefferson, Ibrahim Baba Saliu and Abdulmalik Mohammed were returned unopposed as vice chairman, treasurer, publicity secretary, welfare secretary and provost respectively.

Aminu Sani Muhammad emerged as secretary after scoring 241 votes to defeat Abubakar Idris Tanko who got 96.

Also, Saminu Ibrahim Haruna got 240 votes to floor Patience Arangeson Edamaku who got 110 votes for the office of social secretary.

For the office of assistant secretary, Hadiza Nasir got 188 votes as opposed to 165 gotten by Ibrahim Arif Garba.
