The father of Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante from Jaba community, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, who was stabbed while in the entourage of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II after the Eid prayer, has called for justice and demanded compensation following his son’s tragic death.

In an exclusive interview with SolaceBase on Tuesday, the grieving father, Muhammadu Rabiu, shared the heartbreaking events that led to his son’s demise.

“On Eid day, before the incident occurred, Surajo was getting ready, as usual, to attend the Eid prayer. As a member of the vigilante group in our community, he was often invited to join security forces during public events to help provide security. He left our house but returned about five minutes later, telling his mother that he had changed his mind and would not be going. He said people had brought him electrical equipment for repair. He started working on the items, but roughly 20 minutes later, he changed his mind again, put on his uniform, and left for the Eid prayer. We did not hear anything more until we received the news of his death.”

Surajo Rabiu was 26 years old and the fourth of Muhammadu Rabiu’s twelve children.

“My son died at the age of 26, and he was the fourth child out of my twelve children,” Muhammadu Rabiu said.

“We are calling on the Kano State Government and the Kano Emirate Council to thoroughly investigate this matter, deliver justice, and provide compensation for his death. He was serving as a security officer, protecting lives and property, and he died while on duty.”

He described his son as loyal, respectful, and always dutiful.

“Surajo was a good son, always obedient to my wishes and instructions. Everyone who knew him can attest to his good character and respect for others. He was also known for his electrical repair business.”

He added that his son does not smoke and never associated with undesirable individuals. “Our neighbors can confirm this,” he said.

“We are receiving condolences, but we will also pursue this matter with the leadership of the Vigilante Group to understand what actions they will take on behalf of our son.”

SolaceBase had reported that on Sunday, March 30, as worshippers dispersed from the Eid prayer ground in Kano, a fatal attack occurred on vigilantes in the entourage of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. The attack resulted in the loss of live, and many others sustained injuries.

According to the police authorities, investigation is ongoing on the incident.
