New FCT Education Secretary to prioritize alternative funding of education

The FCT Education Secretariat will work assiduously towards getting alternative funding for education in the Federal Capital Territory.

Similarly, everything will be humanly done to ensure that FCT Education Secretariat takes its rightful place in the socioeconomic development of the Federal Capital Territory.

The newly appointed Secretary for Education in the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Dr. Danlami Hayyo gave this assurance in his maiden meeting with the management team of the Secretariat in his office, Wednesday.

Hayyo said: “Other sources of alternative funding for the Education Sector like the Education Trust Fund, will go a long way in addressing the inadequate Teachers in the teaching and learning system, Capacity Building among others.”

While stating that education remains the bedrock of development in any society, Dr. Hayyo said that it is imperative of Education as the key to all-round development to take its rightful position.

The Secretary called on all departmental heads to sit up and work towards functional, qualitative, and accessible educational services in the Federal Capital Territory.

He highlighted some other key areas, he will be given adequate attention including the appointment of principal officers and the commencement of Academic activities at the FCT University of Science & Technology, Abaji.

Hayyo noted that some physical structures are already on the ground, so efforts will be made to ensure its take off in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration.

The new Secretary for Education said, the Secretariat will not leave any stone unturned in the fulfillment of it’s mandate and will continue to sustain qualitative Education at all levels; adding “We must all join hands to achieve this success”.

He, therefore, seeks for the cooperation of Staff in facilitating and actualizing these lofty objectives.

Hayyo, as a core Educationist, obtained his NCE in Economics/ Geography from Kano State College of Education, before proceeding to Bayero University, Kano, where he bagged a degree in Economics, Master’s, and Ph.D. both in Educational Administration and Planning respectively.

His working experience includes Teaching, Monitoring inspector, Lecturer as well as the Executive Chairman, Kano State Universal Basic Education Board.

He attended various Educational Conferences and a member of many Associations such as Educational and Research Network Africa, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Association for Educational Administration and Planning.
