The Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), Katsina State, says it is celebrating 10-year anniversary with over 20,000 students.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu-Bichi, disclosed this during the university’s pre-Convocation news conference on Thursday in Dutsinma.
Hamisu-Bichi said the university has completed arrangements to graduate 90 Masters/Postgraduate Diploma students and 1,210 undergraduate students during the combined 5th and 6th convocation scheduled for Nov. 27.
He said that a pre-convocation lecture would hold on Friday, Nov. 26 with a special prayer session.
“During the convocation ceremony, we are going to graduate our first PhD students, with more than 90 masters and postgraduate diploma students.

“We are happy with this achievement and will continue to thank God to help us expand the university,” he said.
He said that about 67 undergraduate programs run by the university has full accreditation by the National University Commission (NUC).
“Presently; we have about 20,000 students across the programs and staff population of 5,000.
“After the establishment of the university in 2010, the institution commenced academic activities in 2012 with only three faculties: Facility of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Social Sciences and Management as well as Faculty of Science and Education.
“These faculties had 20 programs by the fifth year of the university; three of the programs had full accreditation while 17 got interim accreditation.
“When I came on board in 2017 as the acting VC, we ensured the accreditation of the 17 programs.
“We later established the School of Postgraduate Studies, with 60 programs fully accredited by the NUC.

“The institution established many academic centres and undergraduate programs which increased from 20 to 67 within my two years as acting VC,” he said.
According to him, all the school’s programs are fully accredited by the NUC while students’ enrollment increased from less than 3,000 to 20,000.
Hamisu-Bichi said that Faculties of Law, Engineering and Medicine were also established after his appointment as the substantive VC within his first year in office.

He said that the NUC had assessed all the programs and expressed optimism that the result would be positive.
According to him, arrangements are on top gear to convert the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina to the University’s Teaching Hospital. (NAN)
