The Federal Government has apologized for the recent blackout in Northern Nigeria, assuring the public that it was unintentional.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, made this statement during a visit to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) headquarters in Kano, on Thursday.

The Minister explained that the blackout was not deliberate and was caused by unforeseen circumstances.

He assured Nigerians that the government is committed to resolving the issue and restoring full power supply as soon as possible.

“What happened in the last few days is regrettable, it’s quite unfortunate, it’s quite worrisome. And we believe that such should not come back.”

“It was not deliberate. And it was also not meant to malign or marginalize any part of the country. President Bola Ahmad Tinubu is for everybody, every section of this country.”

“We all voted for him. And he was not happy that such blackout happened, which is why he instructed that it must be resolved within a very short time. And we have returned power.”

During his visit, the Minister held discussions with KEDCO officials to address challenges faced by the distribution company and explore potential solutions.

The focus was on improving power supply and ensuring the reliability of electricity distribution in the region.

The Minister  visited power installations in Kano to assess the situation firsthand. He emphasized the importance of alternative power sources, such as solar energy, to mitigate the impact of grid failures and improve overall power supply.

KEDCO Managing Director, Abubakar Yusuf, thanked the Minister for his visit and support.

He highlighted the need for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to complete critical transmission line projects, such as the reconducting of the Kumboso-Dangagundi and Kumboso-Dakata lines, to enhance power supply in Kano State.

Yusuf expressed optimism that the Minister’s intervention would lead to significant improvements in power supply to Kano and other northern states.
