The Fombina Imprints Limited has urged young Nigerians to embrace a strong reading culture, emphasizing its pivotal role in national development and the shaping of individual perspectives.

 This call was made on Wednesday during a compelling symposium held in Kano, themed “Crisis of Standards, Decline of Reading Culture, and the Challenges of Publishing in the Digital Era: The Place of Books in the Restoration and Transformation of Our Education Sector.”

Speaking on behalf of the Managing Consultant of Fombina Imprints Limited, Yunusa Zakaria Ya’u, Senior Program Officer at the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), Malam Isa Garba underscored the profound significance of cultivating reading habits, particularly among the youth.

The symposium, held to commemorate World Book Day, served as a platform to not only encourage reading among young people but also to foster vital discussions surrounding the indispensable role of books in the education sector. Furthermore, it provided an opportunity to critically examine the pressing issues confronting the publishing industry in this rapidly evolving digital age.

“We are celebrating World Book Day with a clear purpose: to address the concerning issue of poor reading culture in Nigeria,” Malam Garba stated. “It is our sincere hope that this event will inspire young people to adopt and nurture a consistent habit of reading.”

He further highlighted that the occasion was also dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the invaluable contributions of authors who have played a significant role in disseminating books and knowledge across the nation.

On his part, Kano State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ali Bukar Makoda, represented by Mallam Ahmed Datti affirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to education.

He said that the state is actively prioritizing and investing in initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of education and actively promoting a vibrant reading culture within its populace.
