A coalition of friends, colleagues and associates will on April 29, 2026, gather in Abuja to honour the life and legacy of the late Comrade Abubakar Sokoto Mohammed, mni, described as a leading figure in Nigeria’s progressive intellectual and social justice movements.

The event, which will feature a symposium and book launch, is scheduled to hold at BON Elvis Hotel, Wuse 2, Abuja, beginning at 9:00 a.m., according to a statement issued by the organising committee and signed by Y. Z. Ya’u.

Comrade Mohammed, who died on December 11, 2025, was widely regarded as a committed patriot and a prominent voice in Nigeria’s socialist movement. Over the course of his career, he served at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), and Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), where he championed academic freedom, gender equality and Africa’s development.

The symposium, themed “Scholars and the Social Question in Nigeria: Reflections on the Life of A.S. Mohammed,” will be chaired by Senator Dr. Yahaya Abdullahi. It will feature presentations by notable scholars, including Dr. Yusuf Bangura, Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, Prof. Aliyah Adamu Ahmad and Dr. Julie Sanda.

SolaceBase reports that the major highlight of the event will be the launch of Mohammed’s work, The Satiru Revolt of Peasants and Slaves in Sokoto, 1906.
