FRSC cracks down on mixed loading in Kaduna, intercepts vehicles carrying passengers, animals

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified enforcement against the dangerous practice of mixed loading in Kaduna State, intercepting several articulated vehicles found carrying passengers alongside animals and goods.

In a statement issued Monday, the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, said the enforcement followed directives from the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as part of the ongoing Easter Special Patrol across the country.

The statement said the Kaduna State Sector Command carried out the operation along key road corridors in the state, where several trucks were found transporting more than 100 passengers together with animals and other goods.

According to the FRSC, the operation was led by the Kaduna Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijani Iliyasu, who supervised the interception and apprehension of the offending vehicles.

The Corps Marshal described the practice of mixed loading as a serious threat to road safety, warning that it exposes passengers to severe danger during crashes.

He said vehicles transporting people alongside cargo and livestock become extremely hazardous in the event of an accident because passengers may be crushed by shifting goods or injured by animals.

The statement added that beyond the immediate risk to lives, mixed loading also compromises vehicle stability and braking control, significantly increasing the chances of fatal road crashes.

The FRSC said the enforcement drive reflects the corps’s zero-tolerance stance on traffic violations that endanger the lives of road users.

Drivers and transport operators were therefore warned to desist from mixed loading and other dangerous practices or risk arrest and prosecution.

The Corps Marshal also urged motorists to adopt responsible driving habits, especially during the Easter period when vehicular movement increases across the country.

The FRSC reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property through nationwide enforcement, intelligence-driven patrols and public enlightenment campaigns.
