The 4th Governing Council of the Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State at its Extraordinary Meeting held on 13th December, 2025, has approved the appointment of Professor Ahmed Muhammed Gumel as the 4th substantive Vice–Chancellor of the university, effective from 10th of February, 2026.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Shuaibu Oba Abdulraheem, said the selection process followed a rigorous and meticulous process in which 21 applicants were shortlisted and interviewed at the end of which Professor Gumel emerged as the New VC.
He congratulated the new VC and prayed to Allah to guide him in the discharge of his duties.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by Abdullahi Yahaya Bello, Director, Public Affairs, Federal University Dutse, the Vice-Chancellor designate, Professor Gumel in his remarks, thanked almighty Allah for his emergence as the new VC
He also extended his gratitude to the joint selection team, the Chairman of the Governing Council, the incumbent VC and the entire council of the university for the confidence reposed in him, adding that he will strive to do his best to build on the outstanding achievements of the current VC.
BRIEF PROFILE
Prof. Ahmad Mohammed Gumel is an Alumnus of the University of Malaya in Malaysia, where he received a Master of Biotechnology and PhD in Industrial Biotechnology with specialization in Biocatalysis and Bioprocess Technology in 2009 and 2013, respectively. He was also a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, in 2014.

SolaceBase reports that Professor Gumel also has a Professional Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Administration (MPPA), an Advanced Diploma in Education, a Diploma in Data Processing and Information Technology and a Certificate in Advanced Digital Appreciation Training (ADAPTI).
He is an award-winning Scholar whose PhD thesis received a Distinction from the University of Malaya.
He has over 45 publications in ISI journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. He has published four books. He has supervised 7 PhD students,14 M.Sc. students, 4 Postgraduate Diploma students and 28 undergraduate students.
Gumel is a registered Biotechnologist, a Board Member of the International Institute of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering, a member Nigeria Society for Biotechnology, a member European Federation of Biotechnology, a member Asian Federation of Biotechnology, a member Society for Biological Engineering USA, member Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society.
He is a research consultant to Alpha Sights, 58 Davies Street, London, W1K 5JF, United Kingdom. He has been a top-notch reviewer and a board member of several international peer-reviewed journals. He has attracted several research grants to the university.
Gumel joined the services of Federal University Dutse in 2015, where he held administrative positions of Level Coordinator, Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator, Head of Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Dean of Students Affairs and currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Central Administration, among several others.
