Garo resigns position at national assembly

Dr Farouq Sule Garo, has resigned from his position as Senior Legislative Aide (SLA) to the member representing Gwarzo/Kabo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, signalling his intention to pursue a higher public office.

In a statement signed by Dr Garo on Tuesday, he said the decision followed the directive issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requiring political appointees seeking elective positions to resign on or before March 31, 2026.

The statement explained that Dr Garo formally submitted his resignation to the National Assembly Service Commission in compliance with the directive and in respect of due process, democratic principles and the rule of law.

Speaking on the development, Garo said it had been a privilege to serve in a legislative support capacity, describing the step as the beginning of a new phase of deeper service.

“This step marks a new phase of deeper service, guided by a strong commitment to inclusive representation, youth empowerment, economic development and sustainable progress for our people,” he said.

Garo, who has a background in business leadership, renewable energy, public service and international academic experience, said his aspiration is driven by a desire to introduce innovative and people-centred solutions that would unlock opportunities for communities.

He added that priority areas of focus include infrastructure development, education, agriculture and job creation.

The former aide also expressed appreciation to the lawmaker he served for the opportunity, noting that the experience strengthened his resolve to serve the people with greater impact.

“I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and for the support extended to me during my tenure. The experience has been invaluable and has further strengthened my resolve to serve our people with greater impact,” he added.

Garo further reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to contribute to the party’s continued success and the advancement of good governance.
