Gawuna pledges to improve education sector,if elected

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate in Kano State, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawauna, has pledged to improve the Education Sector of the state, if elected.

Gawuna, who is also the Deputy Governor of the state, made the pledge on Saturday during a two-hour debate organised for five governorship candidates in the state by the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) at the Aliko Dangote Business School, Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

He said he would build on the successes recorded in the sector by two previous administrations in the state – Shekarau and Kwankwaso administrations, as well as the present Ganduje Administration, if given the mandate.

The APC Flagbearer said such gains included provision of infrastructure like new classrooms and furniture ,as well as free and compulsory basic and secondary education as being guaranteed by the Ganduje Administration.

He said the Ganduje Administration had surpassed the two preceding Governments in terms of education infrastructure, especially building of new classrooms.

He also said that the free and compulsory education of the Ganduje Administration had stimulated an increase in the state’s school enrollment figure to more than 3.7 million, presently.

Out of this estimate, Dr. Gawuna said, 60 percent were girls, which he described as gladdening and unprecedented.

On healthcare, the APC candidate said under the Ganduje government, Kano is occupying the number one position in primary healthcare in Northern Nigeria, and also the state is number one in maternal and healthcare, according to the WHO rating.

He promised to consolidate on these achievements recorded by the Ganduje Administration,  if elected as the next Governor of Kano State.

The other participating governorship candidates, Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP, Mohammed Abacha of the PDP, Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada of the ADP and Salihu Tanko Yakasai of the PRP, all pledged to transform both the education and health sectors, if elected on March 11,2023.

Dignitaries who graced the debate included the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, the Kano APC deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, and Spokesperson of the Gawuna/Garo Campaign Council, Malam Muhammad Garba, and other party supporters.

The encounter was aired live on the BBC Hausa world service and some local radio stations located within Kano metropolis.
