Glasgow fire aftermath pictured as smoke covers Union Street, Central Station

Smoke continues to billow from the scene of a major blaze in Glasgow city centre. The fire is believed to have first broken out at a vape shop on Union Street on Sunday afternoon and continued to spread.

Premises on Gordon Street have also been destroyed by the flames as fire crews continue to work on dampening the scene. Onlookers are continuing to pass the road closures to witness the devastation caused to historic Victorian buildings.

Glasgow Central Station remains closed at least until the end of the day with no high-level services, and trains only running through the low level without stopping. Alternative arrangements are in place with a number of rail providers, including CrossCountry, with travellers urged to check information in advance.

Within the city, buses have also been diverted around the area. Firefighters continue to pump water from the River Clyde in their efforts, with the emergency response reduced to nine fire appliances and three high-reach vehicles.

Images from the scene show the crews in action as white smoke covers the buildings which have been affected, some even seen collapsing during Sunday night’s dramatic incident.
