Gov Yusuf seeks FG’s intervention in Singer Market fire

Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has visited the scene of a fire outbreak at the Singer Market, calling for the Federal Government’s intervention in providing modern firefighting equipment, including air support and other essential tools, to help contain the fire and prevent future recurrences.

Gov Yusuf said that such intervention would strengthen the capacity of fire services to respond effectively to emergencies in major commercial centres like Singer Market.

This is contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, in Kano on Sunday.

SolaceBase reports that the fire outbreak that started around 4.00 pm on Saturday was still raging around midnight despite efforts of the state fire service, the federal fire service and some private oganisation proving necesary support.

Recalls that the fire outbreak in the market on Saturday occurred barely two weeks after another one in the same market.

The Governor visited the Gidan Gilas section of the market where the fire was still raging late in the night, causing damage to shops and property.

Yusuf commended the efforts of the Kano State Fire Service and the security agencies battling the inferno, urging the traders as well as the residents to remain calm and cooperate with emergency responders.
