Group applauds JAMB registrar for transparency in addressing UTME glitches

The Civil Society and Media Independent Group of JAMB has commended the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is’haq Oloyede, for his uncommon transparency, accountability, and integrity in addressing challenges encountered during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Friday and signed by 13 prominent members of the group, including veteran journalists, professors of communication, and other media experts who have monitored JAMB examinations across the country for the past eight years.

According to the group, despite some glitches in the release of the 2025 UTME results at certain centres due to human errors, JAMB under Professor Oloyede responded promptly and responsibly.

The group noted that such issues were identified through their independent monitoring, reported to the Board, and were swiftly acted upon.

They lauded the JAMB Registrar’s decision to address the problem through a world press conference, during which he offered a public apology and announced a rescheduled examination for affected centres.

The group described this move as a demonstration of leadership courage and a commitment to institutional accountability.

“A single unusual error that was promptly addressed and corrected should not lead to unnecessary and unwarranted uncomplimentary remarks on JAMB and its leadership,” the statement read.

They further praised JAMB’s consistent performance under Professor Oloyede, citing his track record of transparency, integrity, and commitment to credible examinations as “uncommon in Nigeria’s public service and very rare even in the private sector.”

While sympathising with the affected candidates and their parents, the group expressed appreciation for their patience and cooperation, calling on all stakeholders to support JAMB in its ongoing reforms.
