Hashim advocates climate-aligned infrastructure at national summit

Kano State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s potential to achieve climate-aligned development through effective partnerships and innovative financing mechanisms.

Dr. Hashim, who was a panelist on Wednesday at the Decarbonizing Infrastructure in Nigeria Summit 2025 held at the Statehouse Banquet Hall in Abuja, highlighted the urgency for coordinated action in tackling climate challenges while pursuing industrialization and urbanization.

SolaceBase reports that the summit, themed “Unlocking Climate Finance for Sustainable Development, “brought together prominent leaders, experts, and innovators from across Africa and beyond.

Dr. Hashim participated in the Investment and Public-Private Partnerships Roundtable, where he and other stakeholders discussed practical pathways to accelerate investment-ready, climate-resilient infrastructure across key sectors such as energy, transport, urban development, and agriculture.

The Commissioner noted that decarbonization must go hand-in-hand with robust institutional reforms, private sector engagement, and grassroots participation.

“In Kano State, under the leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, we are committed to translating these national ambitions into impactful local projects,” Dr. Hashim stated.

He cited the state’s initiatives on green urban development, waste-to-wealth and waste-to-energy programs, and climate-resilient agriculture as examples of ongoing efforts.

He also commended the Office of the Vice President, the National Council on Climate Change, and other stakeholders for organizing what he described as a timely and strategic summit.

“Together, we can unlock unprecedented opportunities for sustainable growth, job creation, and improved quality of life,” the Commissioner added.
