‘Hawan Bariki’: Gov Radda lists achievements

Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State says public service is measured by its impact on ordinary citizens, reaffirming commitment to security, development, and institutional reforms.

He spoke during the 2026 Sallah celebration, popularly called Hawan Bariki, held at the State Government House, Katsina, on Sunday.

The colourful durbar attracted 17 European Union diplomats, traditional rulers, government officials, and thousands of residents, with horse riders showcasing Katsina’s rich cultural heritage.

Radda said: “Today is not just a day of celebration, but a moment of reflection.

“Hawan Bariki is more than a ceremony. It reflects our history, identity, and the unity of our people.

“It reminds us of the values that define us — faith, honour, compassion, courage, and service.”

He noted that the diplomats’ presence reflected growing global confidence in Katsina State and its peaceful cultural heritage.

On security, Radda said his administration used both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to ensure the safety of citizens.

“Security is not only about weapons and deployments. It relies on trust, intelligence, community participation and moral responsibility.

“We established the Katsina Community Watch Corps to strengthen grassroots security,” he said.

The governor said three model schools were established, over 85 secondary schools completed, and more than 7,000 teachers recruited.

Radda revealed he commissioned a world-class dialysis centre, completed a state-of-the-art imaging facility, and upgraded over 250 primary healthcare centres.

He added that the administration cleared over ₦45 billion in pension liabilities and introduced digital systems to improve governance efficiency and transparency.
