A presidential hopeful, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has said Nigeria has consistently enmeshed in a failing state in the last 23 years due to mismanagement of governance by, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Prof.  Moghalu  who spoke  on Sunday at a news conference in Kano declared that the two major political parties lack the leadership credence to fix the current challenges bedeviling the country, just as he advocated  adoption of alternative political platforms in 2023 to end the endemic failure of the past.

The former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), who is vying for a presidential seat for the second time under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), vowed to transform the political landscape of the country if elected president next year.

The African Democratic Congress presidential aspirant expressed worries that Nigeria is presently overwhelmed with raising negatives in the areas of unemployment, poverty, insecurity, inflation rate, and other developmental indices owing to the absence of the political will of the present administration to demonstrate quality leadership.

Nigeria is not having security challenges but the country is being overwhelmed by terrorists. There are always challenges in security everywhere in the world the ability of the leadership of the country to manage the situation is what determines whether or not it is a challenge. It is only in Nigeria that life is not important to the government. If I’m elected as president of Nigeria today, the life of citizens will matter to me.

“Presently, Nigeria is having too many large ungoverned space and it is these spaces left in the control of the terrorists, that now resulted to a security threat. And instead of the government ensuring the terrorists face the music, hundreds of them are being released in the name of repentance. Who does that anywhere in the world?

” What is lacking is the political will on the part of the government to manage our security situation. The life of Nigerians will matter to me and that means whoever is responsible for security sabotage will be brought to book, even if it is my cousin. You don’t take Boko Haram and tell people that they have repented”.

Reacting to the closure of universities in the country as a result of the ASUU strike, the presidential hopeful decried the poor management of education while declaring that education would be his top priority if elected as president in 2023.

“I want to bring governance into politics because for too long Nigeria has given much attention to politics without governance and that is the reason the country is gradually descending into a fail state. Our insecurity, poverty, unemployment are all rising while electricity supply, education, and healthcare are falling.

” Let me say that by the year 2023 if Nigeria failed to elect a competent person to do the job the economic and inflation rate of the country would be worst. The job requirements of a leader include nation-building, managing diversity of Nigeria, our institutions are being destroyed and we must hold the president accountable for that.

“The country is burning and all we can see is politicians negotiating how to return to power in 2023. If by 2023 Nigerians failed to elect a competent person to manage the country, the ungoverned spaces will override the country because as the governed space shrink the ungoverned spaces widen”. Moghalu noted.
