How Gbajabiamila saved ASUU from proscription by Buhari led government-Lawmaker

The outgoing Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila saved the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), from proscription during the eight months strike by Muhammadu Buhari led administration.

SOLACEBASE reports that House Committee Chairman on Tertiary Education and Services, Comrade Aminu Sulaiman Goro, disclosed this at the valedictory session of the 9th National Assembly, on Wednesday.

Sulaiman said after a negotiating meeting with ASUU during the months long strike, that ended late into the night, they got information that the federal government was almost concluding arrangement to proscribed ASUU.

‘’When I heard this, I quickly called the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, who immediately called the president, Muhammadu Buhari. In less than 30 minutes, Femi called me and asked me to meet him at the gate of the Aso Rock Villa around 1.00am.’’

‘’When I met him, we went into the villa and the information was confirmed.’’

‘’With the intervention of the Speaker and wise counsel the draft and intention was called off.’’

Aminu Sulaiman Goro said had it been that the Speaker did not intervened immediately it could have thrown the country into quagmire considering the situation of the ASUU strike.

Suliaman, who represents Fagge Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, appreciated the high sense of responsibility of the outgoing Speaker and the patriotism he displayed in the conduct of his legislative activities.
