Human Rights Network, Radio France Internationale Hausa Service honour Salamatu Garba
The Human Rights Network and Radio France Internationale Hausa Service have honoured Dr Salamatu Garba, Founder and Group Executive Board Chair of Women Farmers Advancement Network (WOFAN), with two awards in recognition of her humanitarian service and contributions to women, farmers and vulnerable groups across the country.
The honours were presented at separate events in Kano on Saturday, where Dr Garba was commended for her role in improving livelihoods through women empowerment, agricultural support and humanitarian interventions.

Presenting the Public Service Award, Chairman of Human Rights Network in Nigeria, A.A. Haruna Ayagi, said the recognition was meant for individuals who have made an exceptional impact in society.
“This award is for people who have dedicated their lives to serving humanity. Dr Salamatu has touched many lives, especially women, farmers and persons with special needs,” he said.

Also speaking during the second event, Joseph Penny, who represented RFI Hausa Service, said the organisation recognised Dr Garba for her efforts in transforming the lives of women, youths and persons with disabilities in many communities.

SolaceBase reports that the award from RFI Hausa was received on her behalf by Hajiya Nafisa Murtala Ahmad.

Speaking on behalf of Dr Garba at the Human Rights Network event, Ustaz Daiyabu Umar thanked the organisers for the honour, saying the recognition would inspire greater commitment to humanitarian service.
“WOFAN will continue to support women, farmers and vulnerable communities through programmes that improve lives and create opportunities,” he said.
A total of 41 other individuals were also recognised during the event, which attracted prominent guests including security officials, traditional rulers, religious scholars, academics and business leaders.
