I don’t know suspected drug dealer, Danwawu – Kano commissioner
The Kano State Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Ali Namadi Dala, has dissociated himself from Sulaiman Danwawu, a suspected notorious drug dealer currently facing prosecution before a Federal High Court in Kano over illicit drug deals
Recalls that Daily Nigerian reported that Commissioner Namadi stood as surety for Danwawu during court proceedings, prompting a wave of criticism and concern from various quarters within and outside the state.
However, in a statement issued on Friday, Namadi clarified that he had no personal or professional ties with the defendant, describing Danwawu as a known drug offender.
He explained that his decision to stand as surety was based purely on the appeal of “highly respected and credible individuals” who vouched for the suspect’s character.

According to Namadi, he only later discovered the full extent of the charges against Danwawu.
“I had no prior knowledge of the severity of the allegations levelled against him. The revelations that have since come to light have left me deeply shocked,” the commissioner said.
According to a reports Justice M.S. Shuaibu granted bail to the accused on July 17 after hearing submissions from his legal team.

Namadi emphasized that the bail followed due legal process, noting that under Nigerian law, a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The commissioner explained that part of the bail conditions required a serving commissioner from the Kano State government to act as surety.
He said trusted individuals approached him with this request, and he obliged in good faith.
Expressing his regret, Namadi said, “My core values do not align with shielding criminals or undermining the rule of law,” he said, adding that he has already consulted his lawyers about the possibility of formally withdrawing as surety.
“I sincerely regret being entangled in this unfortunate situation. I assure the Kano State Government and the general public of my unwavering support for justice, transparency, and lawful conduct,” he added.
Namadi reaffirmed his opposition to drug trafficking, terrorism, and any activity that threatens the peace and progress of the state.
