ICAN to launch ATSWA endowment fund in Kano

The Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) is to launch Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa Endowment Fund in Kano.

ICAN Chairman ,Kano District Society, Malam Salisu Haruna , announced this on Tuesday at a news conference held in Kano to unveil lined up activities for the body’s 50th anniversary in the district.

SOLACEBASE reports that ICAN was established by an Act of Parliament No. 15 of 1965 and the Kano District Society of ICAN was inaugurated on 9th December, 1972.

Haruna said the endowment fund initiative would support qualification of students into the Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa of the Institute.

He said the institute will be organizing free training to encourage secondary school students into the Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa programme as well as graduates of tertiary institutions into the path of the professional examination, leading to them becoming chartered accountants.

The Chairman said  the upcoming  50th anniversary events that will hold from 19th to 22nd December 2022 in Kano, will also include Professorial conference, visitations, launching of the Districts Almanac and Magazine with dinner and awards presentation.

According to him, the institute has made tremendous achievement over the years especially in professional examinations.

He noted that some of the contributions made to educational development in the country which include accreditation of tertiary institutions to run full time accounting courses, doctorial students grant for accounting research foundation, launching of house support fund, resolve to build lecture theatres in leading universities in the country and students special project initiative to expand reach to northern states among others.

“The institute has made great achievements over the years especially in professional examinations, and contributions made to educational development in the country which include accreditation of tertiary institutions to run full time accounting courses, launching of house support fund, doctorial students grant for accounting research foundation and students special project initiative to expand reach to north states.”

“It is noteworthy to state that from 2019 to date the numbers of student passing Accounting Technician Scheme West Africa (ATSWA) have increased greatly as a result of contributions of the teaming members and other stakeholders in the society that sponsor the program, which was coordinated by the past chairman Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk .”
