The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered an investigation into allegations linking two senior police officers to the disappearance of Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata.

The development followed a petition submitted to the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters by Kano-based lawyer, Abba A. Hikima, demanding an independent and transparent investigation into the matter.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with SolaceBase on Friday, Hikima confirmed that the IGP contacted him today and assured that the allegations would be investigated thoroughly.

According to the lawyer, the police boss also disclosed that a special unit within the Nigeria Police Force had been assigned to handle the investigation.

Hikima said the decision by the IGP to order a probe was a significant step toward uncovering the truth behind the longstanding controversy surrounding Dadiyata’s disappearance.

The petition, dated May 8, 2026, called for an immediate investigation into allegations made against CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba.

In the petition, Hikima drew the attention of the police authorities to claims allegedly made by Muhammad Musa Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle.

According to the petition, Kamarawa allegedly claimed that the officers threatened to kill him “as they killed Dadiyata and Saminu S/Fada Gusau amongst others in my presence at Operations Yaki Kaduna.”

The lawyer described the allegations as extremely serious, noting that the direct mention of the officers in connection with Dadiyata’s alleged killing could not be ignored by the police authorities.

Dadiyata has remained missing since August 2019, with his disappearance continuing to generate widespread public concern and unanswered questions across the country.

Hikima argued in the petition that where a citizen expressly claimed to have witnessed the alleged killing and directly linked it to named police officers, there was an urgent need for a credible and independent investigation.

“If the allegations against CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba are false, a proper investigation will clear their names and reassure the public. However, if there is any truth whatsoever in the allegations, then justice must be allowed to take its full course irrespective of rank, office or influence,” the petition stated.

The lawyer further stressed that the seriousness of the allegations, coupled with the mystery surrounding Dadiyata’s disappearance, made immediate official action necessary in the interest of justice, accountability and public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

He therefore urged the Inspector-General of Police to constitute an independent investigative panel and make its findings public.
