June 12: Tinubu confers national honour on NDC publicity secretary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recognised prominent pro-democracy activists and advocates for their contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Among the recipients of the national honours announced during the 2026 Democracy Day celebration on Friday was the Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Osa Director.

The NDC publicity secretary was listed among about 50 Nigerians honoured for their roles in the pro-democracy struggle that culminated in the restoration of democratic governance in the country.

Announcing the honours during his nationwide Democracy Day address, President Tinubu said the awardees made significant sacrifices to ensure the survival of democracy in Nigeria.

PROMISES-DELIVERED

According to the President, many of the honourees endured persecution, imprisonment, exile, harassment, and other forms of hardship while campaigning against military rule and advocating democratic governance.

He noted that their sacrifices laid the foundation for the democratic freedoms currently enjoyed by Nigerians.

GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS

The list of recipients comprises journalists, civil rights activists, political leaders, and military officers who played active roles in the struggle for democracy.

Tinubu stated that the recognition was aimed at honouring Nigerians who demonstrated courage and commitment in defending democratic values during some of the country’s most challenging political periods.
