The Sultan of Sokoto and President General Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Saturday, 1st March as first day of Ramadan
The Sultan who made the declaration via nationwide broadcast said the Sultanate Council’s moon sighting committee received reports from traditional rulers and religious leaders across the country of sighting new crescent of Ramadan

SolaceBase reports that the Sultan enjoined Muslims to dedicate themselves during the Ramadan period
He also enjoined Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for Nigeria and its leaders

However, the Sultan called on Muslims to live peacefully with one another, tasked the riches to support needy and less privileged people to do the Fasting with ease
He prayed to God Almighty to give the leaders more wisdom to steer the affairs of Nigeria
