JUST IN: Sultan declares Friday as Eid el-Fitr

The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially declared Friday as the first day of Shawaal, signifying the end of the holy month of Ramadan for the year 1444 in the Islamic calendar.

The Sultan who is also the President , Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, after confirming the moon sighting from several locations across the country, declared that April 21st will be the first day of Eid el-Fitr. This announcement marks the end of a month-long fast observed by Muslims worldwide.

Muslim faithful in Nigeria are urged to comply with COVID-19 protocols while celebrating the Eid el-Fitr festival. The Sultan further implored Muslims to pray for the country’s peace and unity, emphasizing the importance of love, compassion, and forgiveness as significant pillars of Islam.
