JUST IN: Tension in Kano as dethroned emir moves into another palace

The dethroned Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has moved into the emir’s guest house (Gidan Nasarawa) in the ancient town.

It was gathered that Aminu Ado Bayero returned to the town in the early hours of Saturday.

The aircraft that conveyed the deposed Emir touched down at the Aminu Kano International Airport at around 4:30 am.

Bayero was immediately surrounded by his supporters who chanted a verse from Surah Al-Fatihah in the Holy Quran.

“You (alone) we worship, and you (alone) we ask for help (for each and everything),” they chorused.

Bayero’s cavalcade was soon speeding through the lit roads of the city purportedly for the palace.

It could be recalled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who sacked Ado Bayero alongside other Emirs appointed by his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, had given them 48 hours to vacate their palaces and hand over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He subsequently announced the reinstatement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, whom Ganduje deposed in 2020.

The governor issued a reappointment letter to Sanusi on Friday and he led Jumat prayers at Government House, Kano.

But in the early hours of Saturday, Ado Bayero returned to Kano and was welcomed by a crowd of supporters.

He later moved into the mini-palace in Nassarawa, fueling confusion.

However, Sanusi II has taken over the Gidan Rumfa palace.

The two palaces are now under heavy security cover.
