Kano anti-graft agency investigates alleged scam in streets hawkers empowerment scheme
Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has launched a discreet investigation into an alleged scam involving some people in the streets hawkers empowerment scheme of the state government.
SolaceBase recalls that the 465 streets hawkers empowerment scheme of the Kano State Government inaugurated last Wednesday where each beneficiary was given N50,000 was marred with an alleged scam by some people who tried to take advantage of the situation to commit fraud.
Viral videos last week displayed some group of youth who were not originally part of the selected team but were brought to the venue impersonating those on the list and collected the N50,000.

The group of the alleged impersonators said after collecting the N50,000 each, the person who brought them to the venue collected N45,000 from them and left them with N5,000 each.

In an exclusive interview with SolaceBase on Sunday, the Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado said the commission has commenced an investigation into the allegation and other empowerment schemes of the government to prevent fraudsters from putting actual beneficiaries at a disadvantage and destroying the goal of the schemes.
‘’We have actually begun investigation into the empowerment scheme and others to ensure that the culprits are brought to book,’’ Rimingado said.

‘’I can assure you that no matter who is involved in the scam would be brought to book as no stone would be left unturned.’’
‘’The crime is contrary to sections 21, 22 and 23 of the law establishing the commission.’’
The commission chairman noted that the activities of the agency does not witch hunt anyone hence it is investigating some activities of the past administration and that of the present government.

‘’As we speak right now the case of the suspended managing director of Abubakar Rimi Television is in court over alleged misappropriation of funds and others that are still being probed.’’
He appealed to the general public to assist the commission with information that can enhance its investigation of any antigraft issues as they normally do, assuring them of their confidentiality.
