The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has responded to the growing speculations surrounding the purported defection of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Speaking during a press conference held at the party’s state headquarters in Kano on Friday, Hon. Abdullahi Abbas, the APC Kano State Chairman, acknowledged that the APC, under its renewed hope agenda, is actively receiving decampees from various political parties.
SolaceBase reports that the party expressed concern over what it termed a strategic attempt by certain political actors, especially those with controversial pasts, to find refuge within APC.
Abdullahi Abbas highlighted that while the party remains open to receiving new members, the decision must not be mistaken as a free pass to avoid accountability or to seek relevance after political isolation.

He further emphasised that joining the APC is not a shield from anti-corruption scrutiny or consequences, particularly from agencies such as the EFCC and ICPC.
”We are fully aware that some people are desperate to join the APC because they have scuttled their political goodwill and have become political lepers in the national scheme of things and are looking to the APC for political relevance. We are also aware that some politicians are trying to run away from accounting for their corrupt misdeeds both in government and party administration, and seeking for refuge in the APC to escape from the fangs of anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC and ICPC.
”However, joining APC as a political party is not a panacea for escaping from their past sins. For the avoidance of doubt, let me emphasize that the APC as a political party does not and will not encourage or promote the existence of cult like associations in the name of political activities or groupings. On a final note, we unequivocally call on all those prospective decampees who have earlier made derogatory statements against our leaders, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his deputy Senator Kashim Shettima to offer a public apology as a sign of remorse, and respect for future relationships.
“The party noted that while APC remains a democratic institution that respects the rights of citizens to freely associate, it will not condone the creation of cult-like political groupings or the exploitation of the party’s platform for personal gain.”

“The party has instructed its ward chapters to begin registration of new members, regardless of their former political affiliation or social status, in accordance with party procedures. We assured our elected officials at all levels that their tenure and responsibilities remain intact as dictated by the party’s constitution.”
The party demanded that any former political figures, particularly those who have previously made derogatory statements against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, must offer a public apology as a demonstration of remorse and respect.
APC Kano reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, justice, and a transparent political process, urging prospective members to align with the party’s principles rather than use it as an escape route.
