Kano based NGO to present Charter of Demands to governorship candidates

A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Kungiyar Matasan Kano Advocacy Organization has called on all Gubernatorial candidates in the state to establish Ministry for Youth Empowerment, Self-Employment, Entrepreneurship and Wealth creation if elected in 2023 general election.

This was contained in a Charter of Demands jointly signed by Chairman of the NGO, Comrade Alhassan Haruna Danbatta, and its National Secretary General Sani Sule Kano and distributed to newsmen in Kano, on Monday.

Dambatta said the Charter of Demands is aimed at extracting commitment from the governorship candidate of all the political parties.

The Charter added that, “The candidate willing to get our millions of votes from the youths of Kano State who remains the largest block of voters, that are nonpartisan and on the basis of our platform- that are nonparty members, who to this day remains the deciding factor in delivering a winner in every election, have collectively decided to forward their charter of demands to any of the willing partner amongst the candidates who may need our millions of votes in order to be Governor.”

“The individual for this partnership, must be someone who will keep to this covenant on delivering the positive needs and aspirations of Matasan Kano and must promise to strive to formulate and implement the under listed demands of our Youths in Kano State”

“In view of our position as a nonpartisan organization under the platform of Kungiyar Matasan Kano, we wish to reiterate that, we shall work hard to deliver on any candidate who upholds this covenant, this is one of the reason why we address our demands to all political party candidates for the gubernatorial position in Kano State, come 2023 General Elections.”

Willing and cooperating partner must undertake, to implement our policies when he assumed the position of the Governor of Kano State. These may include and not limited to:

  1. He must support our campaign for a Bill for the Establishment of “Ministry for Youths

Empowerment, Self-Employment, Entrepreneurship and Wealth creation. The ministry when establish will resolve the issue of youth unemployment.

  1. All Public Parks within Kano metropolis, leased out to private individuals, must be revoked, renovated and amenities like free Wi-Fi (to be Install by telecommunication companies in Kano) and other necessary facilities put in place for the benefits of Kano youths and the General public.
  2. A panel must be set up to investigate allocations of carve outs and plots of land issued from May 2016 to May 2023. Plots of land found around our Tertiary Institutions, those around Kano city, those plots of land illegally allocated to private individuals must be revoke and the space turn to schools, Health Centers, and green areas for a better scenery or any other project(s) that may be deemed strategic to promote public good.
  1. All scholarships, especially those allotted to sponsored international students must be of

Priority. At local level, scholarship should be concentrated on certain disciplines that includes;

Medical, Engineering, science, Humanities, ICT, Islamic religion, and all relevant courses that

are detailed to serve as an amplifier to our Youths educational as well as social development. S.

  1. Willing and cooperating gubernatorial candidate must equally upholds to strengthen our corporate Social Responsibility CSR laws, so that Companies and multinationals operating in Kano will consistently abide to the provisions of CSR in discharge of their responsibilities to our communities. And the office of the Kano State Coordinator on CSR (which we helped to bring), must be fully backed by law made by the Kano State House of Assembly.
  2. Education at Primary, Secondary and Tertiary levels must be free to all Kano Citizens.
  1. Youths must be considered in assuming some key positions in the” Government that we will strive to bring.
  1. All revenue to be generated for the state must be through legitimate Government Agencies

(Kano State Internal Revenue service KIRS) not through consultants. And all monies stolen or diverted if any must be retrieved and used for the benefits of Kano youths and the general public.

  1. All Pensions and Gratuity owe to Kano state pensioners and retirees must be settled within

the first four years of the Administration, and the pension Board must undergo a reform.

  1. Kano Citizens Joint Security Network (KCJSN), an issue we already discussed with the

Government of today, must be set up as a citizen security outfit to compliment other security

organizations, especially the police in providing, security and keeping Kano safe.
