Kano budgeted above UNESCO benchmark of 26% for education sector-Official

Kano State government has moved a step further in improving education by appropriating 29.95% to the education sector amounting to over 95 billion in the 2024  budget appropriations which is above the UNESCO declaration of 26%.

The Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Higher Education, Professor Auwalu Halliru Arzai stated this when he paid a familiarization visit to the School of Technology on Monday as part of his efforts to tour the 12 Higher Institutions in the State.

Professor Auwalu Arzai maintained that the incumbent government of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf placed a high premium on education from the inauguration, it recorded remarkable achievements by sponsoring 1001 students to study abroad, reducing student registration fees at state higher institutions by 50%, provision of instructional materials and uniforms to pupils in primary schools and payments of 700 million registration fees for Kano state indigenes study at Bayero University.

‘’The Special adviser added that the State Governor directed his office to visit state-owned higher institutions to see their current state of affairs for the quickest intervention and he was impressed with the kind of training offered by the School of Technology in the area of entrepreneurship skills development,’’ the statement said.

‘’Earlier, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Sani Director School of Technology said the school was established 47 years ago and it was a leading school in graduating self-employed youths for many decades.’’

‘’The Director commended the efforts of the State for rekindling the education sector to a greater height, as he pleaded with the government to ensure adequate provision of consumables as the school is running practical-oriented courses.’’

‘’He also solicits the support of the government in the area of retraining technologists operating machines to advance their knowledge regularly to meet the demands of technological advancement.’’
