Kano: Commissioner inaugurates electric cargo bikes to empower women farmers
The Kano State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahir M. Hashim, has commissioned a fleet of electric cargo motorbikes designed to transport agricultural produce efficiently and sustainably.
The commissioning ceremony took place on Thursday at the Mata Zalla Smart Agro-Cargo Base Station in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
SolaceBase reports that the innovative project was executed by the Mata Zallah Entrepreneurs with support from Prompcom+, under the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Hashim highlighted that the initiative marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment and environmental sustainability.

He explained that the use of electric cargo motorbikes will not only boost women’s participation in agribusiness but also reduce post-harvest losses and curb environmental pollution.
“This initiative showcases how technology and environmental conservation can work hand in hand to build a sustainable and inclusive economy,” the Commissioner said.

Dr. Hashim praised the leadership of Mata Zallah Entrepreneurs for their dedication to improving the livelihoods of women and assured them of the government’s continuous support to sustain the project.

He also noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to empower women and promote a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous Kano State.
The newly commissioned electric cargo motorbikes are expected to enhance transportation for women farmers, improve productivity, and contribute to a climate-smart agricultural sector in Kano State.
