In a bold initiative to tackle rising thuggery clashes, Ja’en Makera community leaders, in Gwale local government area of Kano State have taken decisive actions to check the illicit drug menace and incessant thuggery.

The community has expelled suspected drug dealers from the area.

Solacebase reports that the move aims to address the root cause of the recent violence in the area and restore peace to the community.

At a meeting on Saturday, Ja’en community leader, Alhaji Ismail Saad, emphasized the importance of this strategy.

He said drug abuse is the primary driver of thuggery in the community, which has resulted in the loss of lives and properties.

The community leader stated that “By removing drugs and expelling the dealers, we are taking significant steps to eliminate this threat.”

Saminu Muhammad Tukur, Chairman of the Ja’en Elders Forum, said “Our investigation showed that drug dealers were attracting individuals from different areas, which led to an increase in thuggery clashes. We negotiated with these dealers, purchased their entire stock, and ensured they leave the community.”

“We are working harmoniously with security agencies, and we will hand over these drugs to them so that they can take necessary action.”

Supporting this initiative, the Chairman of the Ja’en Development Association, Nura Ibrahim Mai Kare, highlighted their plans to prevent a resurgence of these issues.

“We are committed to empowering our youth through employment opportunities and skill development programs. This will provide them with viable alternatives to drug abuse and thuggery.”

The community’s proactive approach has garnered widespread support, with residents hopeful that these measures will successfully curb thuggery and bring lasting peace to Ja’en.
