Kano Emirate Tussle: Court adjourns suit till July

A Kano State High Court on Monday adjourned sitting in a case filed by the State Government to restrain the 15th Fulani Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero and four other emirs from parading themselves as emirs.

The presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu after listening to Counsel of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, Barr. Ibrahim Muktar and that of the plaintiffs, attorney-general of Kano State, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and the Kano State House of Assembly, Barr. Ibrahim Isah-Wangida adjourned the matter to July 2nd, 2024.

It could be recalled that the court at the last sitting on June 11th ordered substituted service on the respondents that include, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero (Bichi), Dr Ibrahim Abubakar ll (Karaye), Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad-Inuwa (Rano), and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya (Gaya).

SolaceBase reports that the matter was slated for hearing today for a motion on notice filed by the plaintiffs that has to do with an interlocutory injunction after the interim order was granted by the court.

However, the first defendant in the suit served the plaintiffs with a counter affidavit which they were supposed to reply to.

Barr. Ibrahim Isah-Wangida said the originating summon was also ripe for hearing, hence he urged the court to abridge the suit instead of responding to the motions in peace meal so that all the issues could be taken in good time considering the nature of the matter.

Also, one of the counsels to Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, Barr. AbdulRasaq Ahmed said their contention was that the court should set aside the initial order it granted as it was not carried out properly before the law, similarly, they are asking the court to discontinue the matter as it does not have jurisdiction to entertain the suit as at the time the case was filed and stopping the perpetual order the plaintiffs are seeking to restrain the Aminu Ado Bayero from parading himself as Emir of Kano.

The respondents are Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero (Bichi), Dr Ibrahim Abubakar ll (Karaye), Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad-Inuwa (Rano), and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya (Gaya).

Others are the inspector-general of police (IGP), the director of the Department of Security Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigerian Army.
