A Kano-based youth advocacy group, Kungiyar Matasan Kano Advocacy Organization, has raised concerns over the escalating political tensions surrounding the emirship dispute in the state, warning that the situation could threaten stability if not handled with caution. 

In a statement signed by its chairman, Comrade Alhassan Haruna Dambatta, on Wednesday, the group emphasized the need for neutrality and justice in resolving the dispute.

It urged the Federal Government, the judiciary, and security agencies to act impartially and prevent the matter from being used for political gains. 

The organization called on the Federal Government to avoid political interference, cautioning against rumors suggesting that the crisis could be used as a pretext to declare a state of emergency in Kano.

It also urged the judiciary to uphold transparency and fairness in handling legal proceedings related to the dispute, stressing that any perception of bias could worsen tensions. 

Additionally, the group advised security agencies to act professionally and ensure that their interventions focus solely on maintaining peace rather than favoring any interest group. 

SolaceBase reports that Kungiyar Matasan Kano further appealed to traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, and the international community to actively engage in fostering dialogue and reconciliation. 

“The people of Kano have a long history of standing for justice, resilience, and unity. At this pivotal moment, we call on all parties to prioritize peace, fairness, and due process.

Any action that threatens the stability of Kano State and Nigeria at large must be avoided,” the statement added.
