Kano: Family of ten from wedding outing die in auto crash

Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has confirmed that ten members of a family have died in a road accident along the Kaduna-Kachia highway while returning from a wedding in Kano State.

FRSC, Kano Sector Commander, Zubairu Mato, on Monday, attributed the accident to a dangerous overtake which led to the driver losing control.

According to him, the Gulf car was overloaded at the time of the accident. He said among the victims were 8 adults and two children.

‘’The tragic accident happened near a village called Makyelli near Idon on their way to Kachia town around 5 pm on Sunday.’’

It was gathered that the victims, all male, were family members, among which were married men.

The vehicles were said to have had a head-on collision with a lorry conveying firewood which led to their death.

A resident of Kachia town who happened to know some of the victims, Isiyaku Musa Kachia said that they were all from Kano but resided in Kachia town of Kaduna State.

“I know most of them. They went to their hometown in Kano for a wedding but on their way back to Kachia town the Golf car they were travelling in collided with a lorry conveying firewood, and all of them in the car died on the spot,” he said.

According to him, they were buried on Monday, in Kachia according to Islamic rites.
