Kano govt, ACEPHAP, BUK collaborate on data-driven health policy

Kano State Government, through the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the African Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP), with Bayero University Kano, has unveiled key findings from the Kano State Surveillance for Evidence and Policy (KASSEP) project at a high-level dissemination event held in Kano.

SolaceBase reports that the development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the event attracted stakeholders from government, academia, and the health sector, and focused on presenting data from the Retrospect Phase of the project, including Verbal and Social Autopsy components.

These segments offered detailed insights into the causes of mortality and the broader social factors affecting health in the state.

PROMISES-DELIVERED

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, commended the research team for their commitment and professionalism.

He noted that he had been looking forward to the report for over a year, describing it as a vital tool for guiding health sector reforms.

“These findings offer a clear roadmap for reducing maternal mortality and improving health outcomes across Kano State,” Dr. Yusuf said, adding that the full report would be submitted to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for consideration and policy adoption.

KANO ACRESAL PROJECT

Prominent researchers, including Professors Ahmad Maifada Yakasai, Baba Maiyaki Musa, and Hadiza Shehu Galadanci, were in attendance to share key insights from the project.

Professor Galadanci emphasized the importance of aligning research with policy to improve public health outcomes, saying, “By leveraging accurate data, Kano State is setting a benchmark for evidence-based healthcare decision-making.”

The event highlights the state government’s commitment to strengthening health systems and the growing role of academic collaboration in shaping health policy.
