Kano govt disowns fake message on road reconstruction
The Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has disowned a message circulating on social media regarding the reconstruction of Alu Avenue in Nasarawa GRA, describing it as false, misleading, and unauthorised.
The disclaimer was contained in a statement signed on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, who said the message did not emanate from the ministry and was wrongly attributed to his office.
The ministry said the circulating message falsely suggested an official position on the project and improperly carried the name and signature of the commissioner.
It stressed that the communication neither reflected the position of the ministry nor that of the Kano State Government.
According to the statement, the Alu Avenue road reconstruction project was properly consulted and coordinated with all relevant ministries, departments and agencies, particularly the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the Ministry of Works.

The commissioner noted that a joint technical and environmental assessment was carried out before the commencement of the project.
Dr Hashim said the agreed position of the government was clear, stressing that “no single tree was approved for removal along Alu Avenue for the purpose of the reconstruction works.”
He, however, disclosed that three trees were illegally felled by unknown individuals without government approval, describing the action as disheartening and unacceptable.
The commissioner said the ministry had condemned the act and had already initiated appropriate legal action against those responsible.
The ministry further warned that no tree would be removed on Alu Avenue or any other road in the state without express government authorisation and proper environmental clearance.
It added that illegal tree felling is unlawful, environmentally harmful and unpatriotic, and could attract heavy fines or imprisonment under existing laws.
The commissioner urged residents to disregard unauthorised communications and assured the public that the state government remains committed to protecting Kano’s urban green cover while delivering critical infrastructure in an environmentally responsible manner.
