Kano govt intensifies efforts to combat environmental pollution with sensitization campaign
Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is making steady progress with its ongoing eight-week sensitisation campaign on the Kano State Environmental Pollution Control Law 2022 and the Kano State Pollution and Waste Control Regulations 2025.
The campaign has already seen key endorsements and productive engagements, marking early successes in its implementation.
In the initial weeks, the initiative received strong support from the Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, who pledged the full cooperation of the State Civil Service to ensure compliance with the new laws and regulations across all ministries and agencies.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim.

SolaceBase reports that a significant milestone in the campaign was a meeting with the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo Othman, during which the main provisions of the 2022 law and the 2025 regulations were discussed.

“The Commissioner has committed to personally introducing these critical instruments to all 44 Local Government Chairmen, as well as to the First- and Second-Class Emirs and their district heads. This grassroots engagement is a vital step toward promoting widespread understanding and compliance throughout the state,” Dr. Hashim stated.

As part of the ongoing efforts, the Ministry is also collaborating with the Attorney General and the Commissioner for Justice, Barrister. Haruna Dederi is to establish a mobile court system. This system will enable the swift adjudication of environmental offences, ensuring timely and transparent legal proceedings for violators.
“The establishment of this mobile court represents a significant advancement in the enforcement of the state’s environmental laws and regulations,” he added.
‘’Looking ahead, the campaign will expand its outreach to a broad range of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, enforcement agencies, community associations, market leaders, civil society organizations, media outlets, educators, and youth groups.
‘’By engaging these diverse groups, the Ministry aims to ensure that the responsibilities and benefits outlined in the Environmental Pollution Control Law and the Pollution and Waste Control Regulations are fully understood and embraced across Kano State.
