The Kano State Government has begun urgent efforts to address the growing water scarcity affecting rural communities, especially in Warawa Local Government Area.

SolaceBase reports that the move follows a directive from Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf after receiving reports of acute water shortages in the villages of Talawa, Ba’awa, and Dinyari, Warawa local government area.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, the government linked the crisis to intense heatwaves and extreme weather conditions, which have dried up streams and wells, leaving many communities struggling for access to clean drinking water.

Dr. Hashim, who visited the affected areas, said the state has already commenced a water intervention project to provide immediate relief.

He noted that over 120 solar-powered boreholes have so far been constructed across various parts of the state, including in Falgore, Zangon Ranka, Sata, Hayyin Tagidadu, Kafin Agur, Kyallin Bula, and Mariri.

Reassuring the people of Kano, the Commissioner emphasized the government’s commitment to long-term solutions that ensure safe and sustainable access to water.

He also appealed to residents to take ownership of the new boreholes, noting that clean water not only prevents diseases but also supports school attendance among children and reduces the risk of abuse often faced by women and minors in search of water.
