Kano govt official disburses cash support to social media associates

The Director-General, Kano State Directorate of Research and Documentation, Hajiya Nana Asma’u Jibril, has extended financial support to her social media associates.

The generous gesture was showcased at an event titled “My Social Media Friends,” held on Wednesday at the Kano State Government House.

SolaceBase reports that the beneficiaries, drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state, received cash support ranging from N50,000, N100,000, N150,000, N200,000, to N250,000.

Speaking at the event, the director general, popularly known as Gimbiya on social media, said the compassionate gesture addressed ongoing misunderstandings among her associates, who had felt neglected over time.

She stated, “They are my people who supported me a lot by posting on their various social media handles. However, after my appointment as Director-General of the Directorate of Research and Documentation, they found it very hard to be patient.

“Complaints surged, thinking that I had forgotten them. But actually, I have neither forgotten nor forsaken them. They are always in my heart, and I will do whatever I can for them,” she added.

She further explained that the event aimed to highlight the importance of her social media supporters and to reassure them that they are not forgotten. “Had I had more than what I gave them today, I would have given them more,” she said.

She noted that the financial support was intended for each beneficiary to use in whichever way they see fit, stating, “As you can see, they are all young. I believe they need our support. And with this, they will know that I truly care about them.”

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Gimbiya, describing the gesture as commendable, especially considering the contributions they had made in supporting her over time.

Speaking on their behalf, Usaini Ammalu Dahiru said, “We can’t thank her enough. She is so simple and easy-going, and this move has proven it.

“Many people misunderstood her, but she has reconciled with them in a friendly manner. I believe even those in higher positions than hers may not have done the same—or even attempted it.”
