Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, says his administration is putting finishing touches to what will become the state’s first-ever ₦1 trillion proposed budget, expected to be presented to the State House of Assembly next week.
The disclosure was made in a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
SolaceBase reports that Governor Yusuf announced the development while declaring open the Second Special Executive Council Meeting convened to review and finalize the 2026 budget proposals ahead of its formal submission.
According to the statement, the unprecedented budget size underscores his administration’s resolve to deepen ongoing infrastructure expansion, advance urban renewal efforts, and boost socio-economic development across the state.
It attributed the significant rise in the proposed budget to improvements in internally generated revenue (IGR) and the successful plugging of financial leakages.

“Our administration has strengthened internal revenue mechanisms and sealed leakages, which now allows us to plan boldly for transformative projects in 2026,” the governor said.
The statement noted that the 2026 fiscal plan will prioritize housing development, agriculture, education, healthcare, and support for small and medium-scale enterprises, with the goal of accelerating economic growth and creating sustainable livelihoods for residents.
Once finalized, the proposed budget, exceeding ₦1 trillion, will be forwarded to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative scrutiny and approval.
It reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, fiscal discipline, and equitable resource allocation to ensure improved service delivery across all sectors.
If approved, the 2026 estimate will become the largest budget ever presented by any northern state in Nigeria.
