Kano Govt targets improved water supply as Yusuf inspects Challawa treatment plant

The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving water supply across the state, following an inspection visit by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the Challawa Water Treatment Plant.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources, Dr Dahir Muhammad Hashim.

According to the statement, the governor’s visit formed part of an ongoing statewide assessment of major water facilities aimed at identifying operational challenges and enhancing performance.

The statement revealed that the Challawa Water Treatment Plant, which has an installed capacity of 220 million litres per day, is currently operating at about 70 million litres, indicating a significant shortfall.

It added that the development underscores the need for urgent and focused intervention to boost output and meet the growing demand for water supply.

SolaceBase reports that the inspection aligns with the administration’s broader efforts, which have recorded measurable progress in sectors such as education, infrastructure, and human capital development.

It explained that with these gains, the government is now giving renewed attention to the water sector as a critical priority.

“The assessment provided a clearer understanding of the operational gaps, and efforts will be geared toward improving performance and strengthening water supply to the affected areas in a structured and sustainable manner,” the statement said.

The state government reiterated its resolve to address water supply challenges through strategic interventions aimed at ensuring efficient and reliable service delivery.
