Election: Nine Kano Guber candidates alleged plan to use thugs in security agents uniforms

Nine gubernatorial candidates in Kano State on Monday raised alarm over alleged moves to provide security agencies uniform to political thugs during the March 11th,2023 governorship election.

SOLACEBASE reports that the governorship candidates include, Malam Ibrahim Khalil, ADC Governorship candidate, Alhaji Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa, SDP governorship Candidate, Alhaji Sadiq Aminu Wali, PDP Governorship candidate, Alhaji Salihu Tanko Yakasai, PRP Governorship Candidate and Alhaji Yakubu Uba Gaya, YPP Governorship candidate.

Others are Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad, APP Governorship candidate, Hajiya Aisha Mahmud, NRM Governorship candidate, Hajiya Furera Ahmad, Booth Party Governorship candidate and Malam Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada, ADC governorship candidate.

Addressing journalists at a joint news conference, in Kano , on Monday, Spokesman of the group, Malam Ibrahim Khalil, ADC, said ‘’In view of this development, we are calling on relevant stakeholders especially security agencies, state/National Peace Committees, Human Rights Organizations, International and Domestic Observers and media to do the needful in addressing the unfortunate situation for peace and stability to prevail.

SOLACEBASE reports that in the last Presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25th, 2023, in Kano witnessed pocket of violence in Tudun wada local and Takai local government areas, according to police reports with some ballot box snatching that led to cancellation of some results and the death of 3 persons.

‘’We are also appealing to INEC mobilize election materials to polling units on time for the process to kick start appropriately. As there are allegations of plans to delay the process especially in Kano central,” Ibrahim Khaleel said.

‘’Politics must not be taken as a do or die affair.’’

However, when asked who they are accusing of plans to use thugs wearing security agents’ uniforms on the governorship election days, they replied that those involved know themselves.
