Kano inaugurates committee for creation of directorate for solid mineral development

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the constitution of a 10-man committee for the establishment of the State Directorate for Solid Mineral Development (KASDISMID)

Inaugurating the committee in his office, over the weekend, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi said that diversifying and strengthening the Internally Generated Revenue of the state was one of the driving forces that necessitates such an initiative

This was contained in a statement issued by Musa Tanko Muhammad, Information Officer, Cabinet Office, Kano.

‘’Dr Bichi stated further that, solid mineral is a force to reckon with economically, that is why it is neither a Kano nor Nigeria but a global focus, ‘’the statement said.

‘’It has a lot of potential to bring much-needed resources as well as investments which will make it possible for the government to adequately support the state development.

‘’We are known for having both human and natural resources in abundance. We are, therefore, hoping to use such as advantages to set a phase for generating revenue to better the lives of Kano people.’’

‘’Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi said that the composition of the committee was carefully made from the stakeholders who are versatile in the mining sector.’’

According to the statement the committee has as its Chairman, Hon. Aminu Abba Ibrahim, the Adviser to the State Governor on Solid Minerals, and Mallam Yusuf Halilu of Cabinet Office as the secretary of the committee.

‘’Dr. A. B. Bichi hinted that the committee was to develop a framework for the establishment of Kano State Directorate for Solid Minerals Development (KASDISMID). They are also charged to develop a structure and draft a bill for the establishment of the agency and to propose staffing, duties and responsibilities/projections, and a transition plan for the agency. The committee is expected to submit reports within two weeks of the inauguration.

In a remark, on behalf of the committee, the chairman, Hon. Aminu Abba Ibrahim expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them and assured of their professional and thorough success of the job.
