Kano, Kaduna, Katsina expend N3.6 billion on foodstuffs, refreshments in 26 months

A review of budget performance documents by SolaceBase has shown that Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina states spent N3.615 billion on foodstuffs and refreshments in two years, and three months.

This is according to a budget performance review by SolaceBase.

KANO

Already, Kano has spent N96 million on foodstuffs and catering as of the first quarter of 2024. It plans to spend N257.3 million in the full year.

The refreshment and meals budget for the year stands at N355.2 million while only N7.3 million has been spent in the first three months of 2024.

In the 2023 fiscal year, Kano state budgeted the sum of N114.7 million for foodstuffs/catering materials supply but spent N30.5 million at the end of the year.

The Refreshments Budget stood at N220 million, although only N1.3 million was spent at the end of the year.

In 2022, the state budgeted the sum of N505.1 million for foodstuffs/catering materials but ended up spending N349.4 million at the end of the financial year.

In the same vein, the refreshment and meals Budget stood at N219.3 million, although only N2.1 million was spent at the end of the fiscal year.

In total Kano state spent N486.6 million in the period under review.

KATSINA

In a related development, as of the first three months of 2024, Katsina state already spent N357.9 million as expenditure for foodstuffs/catering materials.

The total budget for the year stands at N1.4 billion.

The expenditure on refreshments and meals stands at N114.3 million of a total budget put at N443.5 million.

In 2023, the state budgeted N1.14 billion for foodstuff and catering materials but spent N864 million at the end of the year.

Refreshments and meals total expenditure stood at N501.6 million, however, N347.9 million was spent at the end of the fiscal year.

In 2022, Katsina state budgeted to spend the sum of N396 million on refreshments and meals but spent N320 million at the end of the year.

While the foodstuffs and catering materials budget stood at N1.2 billion, the actual was N717 million

In the two years and three months under review, Katsina state spent N2.7 billion.

KADUNA

In the 2022 fiscal year, Kaduna state spent N59.9 million on foodstuffs and catering materials supply, from the budget of N66.5 million.

A total budget of N730.8 million was earmarked for refreshments and meals, with the sum of N201.7 million spent in the long run.

As of the 2023 financial year, Kaduna state planned to spend N67.7 million on foodstuffs/catering materials but only spent N26.8 million.

Refreshments and meals were expected to cost N336 million but gulped N127.8 million in the longer run.

As of the first quarter of 2024, Kaduna spent N480,000 on foodstuffs out of a budgeted figure of N71.2 million.

Of a budgeted sum of N445.4 million, the state spent N41.6 million in actual sum on refreshments and meals for the first three months of 2024.

In total Kaduna State spent N457.8 million at the end of the year

In total the three states spent N3.6 billion on foodstuffs and refreshments between 2022 and the first three months of 2024.
