Kano LG Council introduces foreign scholarship for tertiary students

Ungogo Local Government Council of Kano State has introduced overseas scholarship for tertiary education students.

SOLACEBASE reports that the scheme, according to the council, is part of the #VISION2033, an initiative that will see Ungogo emerge as a technology driven force within the Nigerian economy with mature tech clusters in Fintech, Agtech, Edtech and Healthtech.

This was contained in a statement issued by the council boss, Engr Abdullahi Garba Ramat, on Sunday.

The statement said Ungogo Local Government Council is partnering with the Lincoln University Malaysia — a top ranking institution, to admit fifty students for a pathfinder program to study various fields within the IT discipline.

‘’The scholarship scheme is for IT discipline courses such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Cloud computing, Blockchain (Bsc computer science with specialization in Network Tech, Bsc Information Tech, Bsc in Internet Tech and Cloud computing, Bsc computer science with specialization in AI, Bsc IT with specialization in Data analytics) etc,’’ the statement said.

‘’The program is designed to span a period of four years, with the first two years of studies carried out in the Lincoln University Abuja campus for the acquisition of National Diploma certification, after which the students will be guided through their careers in collaboration with the industry leaders where they will be recruited as remote workers.

The statement noted that while working, the students will complete the final two years of their degree as a top up program at the Malaysian campus of the Lincoln University in Malaysia.

‘’Upon return, these professionals are planned to be the seedlings from which the foliage of technology will expand in the local government as we will offer an automatic employment to them all right after their first year of study to work remotely as the LGA permanent and pensionable staff.’’

ELIGIBILITY

The statement said interested candidates must pass the selection criteria in order to be eligible and applicant must, be indigene of Ungogo Local Government, have SSCE certificate with a minimum of five credits including English and Mathematic and have a genuine passion for ICT / computers, and have a certificate of computer literacy with proficiency in English Language.

Candidates who apply are required to attend a screening interview which is scheduled to take place at the Ungogo Local Government secretariat on Sunday 4th December 2022 at 10 O’clock am.

Candidates should come along with the photocopy of their credentials and the printout of their application acknowledgement email.
