Kano, NAGGW strengthen ties on climate resilience, land restoration
Kano State Government has expressed readiness to deepen collaboration with the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) to advance land restoration and climate resilience efforts in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement personally signed and issued by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, on Saturday.
Dr. Hashim, who received the Director-General of the NAGGW, Mr. Saleh Abubakar, in his office, said they discussed key areas of partnership between the state and the federal agency.
SolaceBase reports that the discussions centred on ongoing and future environmental initiatives aimed at mitigating climate change and restoring degraded land in Kano.

According to the Commissioner, he discussed with Mr. Abubakar several projects currently underway in the state, including the flagship 5 million tree planting program and the avenue plantation initiative, which is transforming urban areas across the state into green spaces.
He also highlighted the recent approval by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to increase the salaries of forest guards and recruit additional personnel—an effort aimed at reinforcing the state’s environmental protection capacity.
Dr. Hashim noted that the NAGGW boss expressed keen interest in collaborating on a plantation project and a new plan to plant 5 million date palm trees as part of wider land conservation strategies.

He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting strategic partnerships that will strengthen climate change adaptation and promote a greener, more sustainable Kano State.
