Kano State Government has recommissioned the Dorayi Compost Plant as part of efforts to strengthen its Waste-to-Wealth Initiative, aimed at improving waste management, promoting organic farming, and creating employment opportunities.

This was disclosed in a statement the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, personally signed and issued on Tuesday.

Dr. Hashim noted that the recommissioning of the plant, which was made possible with the support of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, marks a significant step toward a cleaner and healthier environment in the state.

According to him, the facility will help convert waste into organic manure, thereby enhancing soil fertility and public health while contributing to biodiversity conservation.

He emphasised that compost manure produced at the plant is purely organic, capable of maintaining the soil’s natural nutrient composition without posing any harm to aquatic life when washed away by runoff.

The commissioner also called on stakeholders and development partners to collaborate with the government in scaling up the initiative and promoting environmental sustainability across the state.
